Donkey Donkey… The therapeutic power of Mirandês donkeys

Current status:

The Association for the Study and Protection of Donkey (AEPGA) is a non-governmental environmental organization (NGO). Created in 2001, its work has been mainly focused on preserving the Miranda Donkey, promoting and dignifying it, not only as a genetic heritage, but also as an important cultural heritage. This comprehensive approach – which is based on the fundamental principle that the donkey should be seen as a whole, composed of biological, ecological and cultural dimensions – thus results in a multidisciplinary project with an impact on several areas of action.

Partner’s view:

The idea is to organize educational and recreational activities that contribute to combating loneliness among the elderly and to get better understand these amazing animals. To reach this AEPGA intends to organize donkey mediation activities that involve elderly people interacting with donkeys. These activities have a recognized effect on mitigating several physical, mental and social health problems.

Challenge:

Organize donkeys mediation activities with groups of elderly people.
