The II International Conference on Research for Sustainable Development in Mountain Regions, to take place in Nova Friburgo, Brazil, on 12-14 December 2018, invites proposals for symposia (parallel sessions during the conference).
These proposals should be submitted by 25 February 2018 to http://www.
The II International Conference on Research for Sustainable Development in Mountain Regions is part of Mountains 2018, an international event aiming to promote sustainable development in mountains, based on science, knowledge, and innovation.
The aim of the conference is to share innovative experiences of mountain scientific knowledge, and promote debate on new directions and on how research can contribute to practice. All symposium should contribute to the overall theme of ‘Connecting science to practice’ and be linked to the implementation of specified Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030.
CIMO in geobotanical expedition to Angola
CIMO is one of the organizers of the international Geobotanical Expedition to the Delta of the Cunene River, Angola, from March 24 to April 10, 2018. CIMO researcher Carlos Aguiar will be one of the Portuguese botanists who, with others from Angola, France and Germany, will produce a vegetation system for the Southwest of Angola. As part of this expedition, a seminar dedicated to “Flora, vegetation and biogeography of Southwestern Angola: knowledge and sustainable development” will take place on March 26, at the University José Eduardo dos Santos, in Huambo. In this seminar, Carlos Aguiar will present the first volume of “Manual of Botany”, his most recent book.

Mountains 2018 leaflet released
With new information about the concept, objectives, structure, timeframe and the the hosting city, Nova Friburgo, the organizers of Mountains 2018 have released the first leaflet of the event. The deadline for the submission of symposium proposals in the II International Conference on Research for Sustainable Development in Mountain Regions is January 31st 2018..

RNIM to be launched on International Mountains Day
The National Mountain Research Network (Rede Nacional de Investigação de Montanha - RNIM) will be launched on December 11, 2017, International Mountains Day, in a public session at the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda. The event includes presentations of RNIM, the collaborative project "MORE-Mountains of Research", and the “GeoPark Estrela” initiative. During the event, RNIM will express their support via videoconference to the Mountains 2018 event to be launched in Rome during the Mountain Partnership Global Meeting. Portuguese Mountain Researh Network meets for first time
The Coordinator Council of the National Mountain Research Network (Rede Nacional de Investigação de Montanha - RNIM) met for the first time last Friday, November 3. This meeting marks the beginning of the establishment and expansion of the Network and its contribution to the development of mountain research in Portugal where nearly 40% of the country's area is mountains. The RNIM was created in April of 2017 through a Government Order (Despacho n.º 3434/2017) signed by 7 Ministers. This is the first governmental initiative specifically directed to mountain areas in Portugal. Isabel Ferreira was designated by FCT as RNIM Coordinator.
